Cultural and educational activities of G.V. Baev in emigration (1920s–1930s)

An outstanding representative of the Ossetian intelligentsia Georgy Vasilyevich Baev had a great influence on the socio-political and economic development of the Terek region at the beginning of the 20th century, so a thorough study of his creative heritage seems very relevant. Despite the fact that significant scientific literature has already been devoted to Baev many archival sources that could shed new light on his diverse activities have not yet been introduced into scientific circulation. While already in exile, Baev took an active part in the creation of the «Ossetian-Russian-German Dictionary», the translation of the Holy Scriptures into the Ossetian language and the opening of an Ossetian language course at the University of Berlin in 1926. The methodological basis of this article are the traditional principles of historicism and objectivity for studies of this kind, as well as the comparative historical method, which allows to draw conclusions about the specificity or typicality of individual personality characteristics; biographical method; a multidisciplinary methodology that explains a number of features of the personal and social behavior of a historical figure.
