Abstract
The article analyzes the discussion about the future of the Russian Navy after the Crimean War. The materials of this discussion allow revealing the different views on the future of the Russian naval forces that existed among the representatives of the supreme naval command of that time. The subjects of controversy in the Russian maritime environment were the place and role of the fleet in Russia's foreign policy, the problems of further development of the fleet and ways to solve them.
