Abstract
The article analyzes the formation of political institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the post-Soviet period. The author highlights the presence of formal and informal institutions of power, based on D. North's approach to the concept of institution. The article emphasizes that the formation of political institutions took place against the background of the search for the national and apparatus-state identity of the young independent republics, which significantly influenced this process.
