Abstract

The article analyzes the scale and character of the wages gender gap in Russia and China. The comparison of two societies is based on two large-scale studies – the 28th round of the RLMS (Russian Longitudinal Monitoring Study) and the Chinese Sociological Study (CSS) dating back to 2019. Apart from the traditional approach to gender comparisons using average wages of men and women, the article employs the Theil decomposition method and the classification of data generated by the CHAID.
Keywords:
gender pay gap; inequality; pay; comparative analysis; decomposition; Theil index; wage factors
