Abstract
The article describes seven characteristics and qualities of the historical events that took place on June 22, 1941 – the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. In the war against the USSR the whole Europe, in modern language, the Western civilization, that saw in Eurasian Russia its geopolitical antagonist, took place. Evil and cynical is the attempt to place the equal responsibility for the outbreak of the war on the Soviet Union and Germany. Owing to a number of objective and subjective reasons, the initial period of the war was catastrophic for the Soviet Union. That is why one should draw due lessons and insights for modern conditions. This is the aim of the article.
