Abstract

Russophobic ideas of the Ukrainian nationalism look illogic in the context of relationships between peoples which are bound by language and culture. But the juxtaposition of the Ukrainian model with its Yugoslavian analogues shows their high typological affinity: the role of a bitter enemy is imposed upon the closest nation. When the political goal is formation of a peculiar identity within a scarcity of natural differences, nationalistic politicians look for it invention and exaggeration using all tools. As a result the close affinity turns into a factor of the additional dissimilation and confrontation.
Keywords:
Ukrainian crisis, nationalism, closely related nations, historical and cultural unity
