The Growth of Prices and the Standard of Living of Population in Conditions of Economic Mobilization

This article is devoted to the complex study of the prices hike for the main types of goods at the initial stage of the World War I, and also the analysis of the changing of the living standard of the population in Russia. The author assesses the causes of the uplift in prices and the influence on this process of objective and subjective factors. The great attention in the article is paid towards such key factors of the prices hike as the decline in production, disruption of the transport system, territorial isolation of the regions due to the location of fronts. The author concluded that the aggravation of the food crisis, shortages and sharp prices hike during the first years of war have led to the dramatic evolution of the public attitudes towards either to the war or to the political leadership of the country form the patriotic support to the total condemnation
