Concerning some Aspects of Japanese Participation in the International Information Exchange in the 1930s

Escalation of international tensions and expansion of the geopolitical component in the 1930s preconditioned growing interdependence of the international community and turned out an important factor of accelerated development of the international information exchange (IIE). For instance, the Japanese occupation of Manchuria and the following war in China turned the Far East into a source of political sensations, which caused deep concern of the international community. Being among the leading information states of the world, Japan set the stage for territorial aggrandizement by purposefully expanding the limits of its information space in Asia-Pacific region. In an effort to justify its expansionist policy, Japan increased its information and propaganda support at the international arena using both all available forms of international communicative interaction and illegal and subversive methods. As a result, the role of Japanese mass media increased and their influence on the international information exchange strengthened, giving it a subversive expansionist character.
