Abstract
The condition and problems of the development of the Russian Army's artillery on the eve of the Russian-Japanese War of 1904–1905 are considered in the article. The paper defines the main areas of activity of Russia’s state and military control bodies on improving organizational structure and on supplying army units with new artillery systems. The Russian Army leadership also paid great attention to improving the quality of the artillery forces personnel training both in peacetime and in wartime. The author clearly indicated the main conditions for increasing the firepower of artillery units of the Russian Army in the early 20th century and also revealed the main organizational and managerial reasons which interfered equipping the field artillery with modern combat systems.
