Abstract

The content, directions and methods of the Soviet propaganda in respect of The Beatles phenomenon – one of the symbol both of youth revolution and information globalization of the 1960s years – are considered in the article. Official Soviet appraisal of The Beatles was transformed from the negative to the positive turn in the period of psychological warfare between the West and the USSR. The author of the article reveals the main directions of official popularization of The Beatles music in the Soviet Union: publication of music and texts (on English, Russian, Ukrainian Estonian, Lithuanian languages) of The Beatles songs in music books and in «Rovesnik» journal in 1966–1970 years; publication of The Beatles song «Girl» in 1967 and 26 cover versions of The Beatles’ songs of the Soviet and foreign musicians in 1967–1970 by «Melodia» firm; mass publication of the «sound letters» with The Beatles songs and using The Beatles songs in Soviet cinematograph.
