Abstract

The article is devoted to the results of studing the modern Russia’s image in American mass media. Main approaches to the study of Russia’s image are described. The image is considered as an integral concept. The empirical base is the corpus of New York Times’ articles. The articles describe main elements: foreign policy, elections and protests (2011–2012), economic policy and culture of Russia. Research shows that the newspaper creates a negative image of a totalitarian society, which threatens to the US and global security.
