Abstract
Objective of the study is to determine the cognitive meaning in the perception of social stereotypes.
The methodological basis of the research is a set of theoretical ideas about the patterns of cognitive distortions in the structure of mass communications.
Research results. Socio-cognitive research allows us to combine the structural elements of stereotypes into a single complex for the knowledge of the laws of the formation of mass consciousness. The manifestation of each structural element (affective component – feelings and emotions, behavioral – hostile actions, etc.) significantly depends on the awareness of the bearers of stereotypes of the consequences of socio-cognitive distortions.
Prospects of the study are to identify cognitive distortions in the structure of mass communications.
Keywords:
social stereotypes, mass communications, heterostereotypes, autostereotypes, cognitive meaning of stereotypes, mass cognitive distortions, dynamics of perception stereotypes, structure of stereotypes
