Abstract

Objective of the study is: to identify the influence of the representation of ethnic groups of migrants in the regional media of the Rostov region on their integration into the host community. The methodological basis of the research was the criteria laid down at the «entrance» of content analysis of publications in the media. The period of the message array from which the selection was made is determined. The circle of regional Internet publications of the Rostov region is outlined, two of which are representative offices of federal media, and the other two are exclusively regional. The selection criterion was applied both word-use (migrant and derivatives) and contextual (it is clear from the content of the message that we are talking about migrants). Each message was assigned a marker that characterizes it in terms of mentioning the ethnicity of migrants or the country of origin. The proportion of representation in the messages of one or another ethnic group is a marker of the possibility of forming an image. The distribution of messages during the selection period characterizes the stability or eventfulness of the representation of a particular group of migrants. Together, these criteria characterize the very degree of integration potential of the representation of ethnic groups of migrants. Research results. It was revealed that the messages with migrants from Ukraine, the DPR and the LPR have the greatest integrating potential. Mentions of other migrant groups are episodic and event-driven. However, reports on migrants from Ukraine, the DPR and the LPR are of the same eventful nature: the vast majority of such reports fall in the first quarter of 2022. In general, it can be noted that the representations of ethnic groups of migrants in the media of the Rostov region have a low level of integration potential of the considered ethnic groups into the local community. Prospects of the study. The results can be used in the study of the representation of various groups of migrants in regional media.
