Abstract
The article is devoted to the modifications of human existential fear in modern culture and society, as well as to social catalysts for its subjective reproduction in terms of the unstable state of security in the modern world. The authors explore the transformation of the content of social fears, exploring the possibility of expanding its interpretation in modern culture and society. The study is based on a number of methodological approaches in philosophy, cultural studies, sociology and social psychology. The crisis phenomena in the global development process are accompanied by the increase of the modifications of social fears. Crisis consciousness, widely discussed in socio-philosophical reflection, at the beginning of the last century, in this century received new features. It became not only catastrophic, but also penetrated into new spheres of human social and cultural life. The consumer society in many ways socializes the individual in various planes of the existence of fear, as threats of cultural non-existence, like the absence of vital meanings, guilt and fear of death. In the history of the society, social institutions act as the mechanisms producing certain social fear scenarios. The society with the help of social institutions seeks to form the attractors of social fears, finding the “reliable” mechanisms for controlling the masses.
