Abstract
This article analyzes the results of sociological research aimed at identifying the level of material satisfaction of doctors in Rostov-on-Don; studying the perception of own socio-economic status by doctors; studying the structure of social identity of Rostov doctors; determining the significance of the prestige of the profession and the influence of family labor traditions on the formation of professional identity. In spring and summer 2017, a standardized questionnaire was conducted by the research team, using a quota-proportional sampling, with a statistical error of the study of no more than 4-5%. 400 doctors with higher medical education were interviewed and 7 in-depth interviews were conducted in Rostov-on-Don. Sociological analysis of the obtained empirical information allows to conceptualize the ideas about the professional identity of physicians in Rostov-on-Don in the context of the emerging trends of precariatisation of the profession, identified in other Russian megalopolises. The developed sociological toolkit allows to analyze the level of material satisfaction of doctors and explore the perception of their own socio-economic status. In the course of the study, barriers to the formation of the professional identity of doctors are highlighted. Among them: the insufficient level of material support, the increase in the workload, including those not related to the performance of professional duties, the decline in the prestige of the profession in society. On the other hand, a constructive factor in the formation of professional identity, in the course of the study, family labor traditions emerge. At the same time, it was found out that Rostov doctors, as well as the representatives of the professional community in other Russian megalopolises, are characterized by the tendencies of a crisis of professional identity, which generally corresponds to the all-Russian trends of the professional identity formation of doctors.
