Abstract
The article analyzes the types of modernization that differ in the nature according to objective-material and subjective-cultural factors; but in all cases they produce not only material goods, but also risks that are specifically considered in the historical and social context. When passing from a traditional to an early industrial society, two types of risks emerged: at the micro level– personal risks; at the macro level – risks in the form of unpredictable natural hazards, suggesting an active response of people, working out the first approaches to risk-management. Thanks to them, these risks were largely overcome by the practices of industrial modernity, which, however, carried two new types of risks: at the micro level – the risks of voluntary acceptance of dangerous industrialization practices; at the macro level – the risks of development of the industry with detrimental hygienic technologies. These risks were more structured, and one could manage them through calculations and control relying on scientific knowledge. At the present stage of reflexive modernization, there have appeared two types of complex risks: at the micro level – the risks of institutional individualization; at the macro level – risks in the form of side effects of modern more advanced modernization. To manage them, the author suggests using as the tools of innovative sociological diagnostics of the academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences M.K. Gorshkov, as well as a humanistic turn that is necessary not only in sociology, but also in all sciences.
