Abstract
The article analyzes the problem of subjectivity in historical and actual processes of manifestation of demonstrative consumption in the everyday life in Russian society. It is shown that demonstrative consumption is realized by the efforts of various social actors as subjects of consumer relations. Its representatives are the new rich (in the 1990s - "new Russians") and representatives of the upper middle class, remaining in the space of lumpen culture and sociality ("one-dimensional man"). Demonstrating such consumer behavior, an individual consumes goods and services that have a "sign" social value, that is, designed for a demonstration for show, and attends those events where one can clearly demonstrate his level of consumption and are prestigious themselves.
