Abstract

Objective of the study is to identify the current state and main trends in the development of interethnic and interfaith relations in the Republic of Dagestan based on sociological surveys conducted in 2021-2025. Methodological basis of the study. A secondary analysis of the results of sociological (mass) surveys is carried out based on a moderate constructivist approach to the theoretical understanding of regional interethnic and interfaith relations. Qualitative materials for the analysis of the situation are obtained by the monitoring of regional information field. Results of the study. Positive assessment of the state of interethnic relations in the region dominates in the mass consciousness of the republic's residents. Most respondents believe that relations between people of different ethnicities are only improving every year in Dagestan. Although there are unresolved and long-standing problems in the field of interethnic relations in the republic, the common historical destiny and the experience of peaceful coexistence make it possible to resolve all conflicts peacefully. According to the survey, the sphere of interfaith relations in Dagestan generally appears favorable. It is characterized by a combination of institutional stability, active interfaith dialogue, and the persistence of challenges which the religious communities of republic’s three main faiths are facing. Contradictions in the Muslim environment are mitigated by the systematic work of the authorities and the constructive position of the majority of religious leaders and authorities. The system of monitoring tensions in municipalities created in Dagestan in recent years makes it possible to prevent the aggravation of local and domestic conflicts and to prevent their escalation promptly. Dagestan demonstrates a balanced approach that combines administrative regulation, comprehensive scientific research, and public dialogue in managing regional ethno-policy.   Prospects of the study. To maintain stability in the complex Dagestan society, it is necessary to monitor the situation on the ground constantly and pay increased attention to the youth environment.
